The Gorgeous Must Have Sabyasachi Mukherjee Collection

Ok Mr Mukherjee, you have a convert. I admired your collections with a measured restraint, but the latest instalment has me converted to a hardcode Sabyasachi Mukherjee fan. Curious why? Read on.

Sabyasachi dropped the latest collection via Instagram – a beautiful collection that was shot in Rajasthan. The backdrop provided the perfect setting for the even more stunning clothes. There is a certain trademark style to Sabyasachi and this was evident in the collection. However, there is also a change in style from the “traditional” Sabyasachi style.

There is an even greater degree of sophistication in this collection and there seem to be a bolder use of colours. The floral inspiration and the cuts remain very similar to the trademark Sabya style. What has particularly caught my attention this time around is the range of the collection. You have vibrant colours, muted classic colours, prints – what more could you want!! But lets break down some of my favourite pieces from the collection by theme.

First there was detail

I love the fact that the details on each of the garments – Lehengas, Sherwanis – are so delicately executed. Usually you see similar motifs all over a designers’ collection, but as you see from these pictures, the motifs are very diverse and range from the traditional mango motify to the gorgeous floral inspired motifs.

Then there was colour

Of course Indian Wedding clothes have a lot of colour and panache, but the choice of colours here is what I love. The range of colours is unusual in my opinion – green sherwanis for example. I especially love the bright reds for both girls and men – the tone and shade of the reds is particularly interesting for me. It is bold and powerful – it make a statement and certainly creates presence.

Then there are the more usual-unusual colours like Teal, Orange, etc. These are great, but I have seen them used in the past, so these are not so unique for me. However, the combinations are again very different and worthy of second looks. The sherwani in the first picture that has chevron patterns in multiple colours – a very unique use of red.

And finally there was Print

Sabyasachi and floral prints are almost synonymous, so you’d expect to see a host of printed styles in the collection. And this one does not disappoint. I particularly like the water-colour finish to the florals, they look absolutely fantastic. And such a refreshing change from the OTT embroidered styles. These are perfect for a very classic look that can be styled so easily for a number of events.

Here are some more simply gorgeous pictures from the collection….  16906820_347516832310099_556306605382041600_n

Girls, you just have to include this in your shopping list. You really cannot have a wedding without Sabya. That’s my latest mantra!

The Unconventional Bridal Lehenga

Gone are the days when women only wore demure red and maroon bridal lehengas for their wedding. This is the era of unconventional, quirky, bold and colourful. From tiny backless cholis to long waistcoats, we have it all! Brides today are the epitome of modern sophistication and vintage elegance. There is no dearth of exceptionally talented designers in India. You can take your pick of bridal lehengas from famous Indian designers like Manish Malhotra, an absolute favourite and even offbeat ones like Khyati Pande. New entries in this bridal lehenga biz are Pakistani designers like Nomi Ansari and Sana Safinaz. With these flourish of designers, we bring to you a compilation of all our favourite bridal lehengas.

We love our Indian designers. They are unpredictable and innovative and love challenging themselves.

Take this Suneet Verma creation for example. The colour combination of this bridal lehenga is so unusual that it may require another look. But that’s the beauty of this bridal lehenga. Notice the intricate mirror work and how each colour is skilfully used in correct proportions. It’s not gaudy or overbearing. As a whole, it’s just right.

If you don’t want your style buds to be restricted with traditional colours, feel free to embrace this! Times have changed and you can wear almost any colour you desire on your wedding.

A sage green bridal lehenga by Ashima Leena

Anyone fancy this sage green sherwani lehenga? Designer duo Ashima Leena has created this brilliant bridal lehenga masterpiece in the most underrated colour. This mint green shade creates a sophisticated and elegant look. If you don’t want anything too elaborate with typical colours of white and red, then this subtle colour is for you!

Sometimes, people may choose a bridal lehenga with a lot of embellishment and shimmer. After all, who doesn’t like a bit of bling? What we don’t realise is that sometimes beauty lies in simplicity. Take for example this JJ Valaya lehenga.

Distinctive and striking colours? Check! Elaborate yet simple and tasteful embroidery? Check! Bound to make a hit bridal lehenga? Double check! This outfit, with its beautiful embroidery work and colours speaks timeless beauty and elegance.

But our ultimate favourite is this powdery blue bridal lehenga below.

This bridal lehenga is going to make you look and feel ethereal, graceful, classy and breathtakingly beautiful all at the same time! Designer Jyotsna Tiwari proves with this creation that blue is definitely an elegant bridal wear option.

Whilst white and ivory are not the top picks for bridal lehengas, we beg to differ!

Meera and Muzaffar Ali’s white and gold lehenga is rich, royal and ravishing. All eyes are guaranteed to be on you as you flaunt this elegant ensemble in style.

Pakistani bridal lehengas are usually characterized by their extensive use of long sherwanis and detailed lehengas underneath.

Veteran Pakistani designer Nomi Ansari is most famous for his exceptionally beautiful bridal lehengas.

This bridal lehenga has all the elements required for an exquisite bride. You can never go wrong with intricate gold embroidery and a beautiful burst of pink!

The most unconventional bridal lehenga on this list is Nomi Ansari floral creation shown below.

This bridal lehenga screams diversity and innovation with its big, bold colourful spring flower print juxtaposed on a mint green colour. Simply exquisite!

Like Ashima Leena’s sage green ensemble, peach is a very underrated bridal lehenga colour. However, this Asifa and Nabeel lehenga says otherwise. I love the gorgeous layers and subtle gold embroidery work, which has a very feminine and elegant feel.

Our final bridal lehenga is this heavy creation by Sana Safinaz.

A bold pink bridal lehenga by Sana Safinaz

This bridal lehenga has strong colours, pink being the dominant one. What makes this bridal lehenga novel is the cutwork sleeves, which add a touch of rebellion and modernity in this otherwise traditional look.

Through this article, my sole motive was to familiarise you with the extensive variety of bridal lehengas that exist. You don’t have to settle with just anything. Carefully handpick a desired bridal lehenga that reflects your personality, because you can. Be bold, be different!

Best Dressed and Top Fashion Looks at the IIFA Awards 2014

Deepika Padukone at the IIFA Awards 2014

Bollywood’s young brigade definitely ruled the green carpet at the IIFA Awards, showcasing a gorgeous section of Indian fashion and designers with unique styles, impressing myself, and the fans with their elegance and originality.

I have personally chosen each of these looks as I love the diversity, embellishment and colours of each of the gowns which were proudly shown off as the stars one by one graced the green carpet. Vaani Kapoor specifically stood out for me, showcasing a stunning embellished gold tone backless dress by Raakesh Agarvwal, a sure favourite of mine. The highly embellished gowns in general were definitely my preference amongst the fashion designs; it’s a key look for this season and is extremely flattering and stands out from a crowd.

IIFA-awards-green-carpet
Kalki Koechlin was a key example of how to wear embellishment, wearing Gaurav Gupta, she stood out at the IIFA Awards in this dazzling soft coloured number detailed with shoulder padding detail and long sleeves which created a princess style look.

IIFA-awards-green-carpet

Deepika Padukone had opted for a red gown by Lebanese designer Zuhair Murad, she looked gorgeous in this figure hugging lace number and simple updo hairstyle, and although the dark berry lips weren’t for everyone, I personally loved them! In general lip colour at the IIFA Awards was very neutral and nude, a trend and overall fashion look that has taken this season by storm, and successfully completes every look. Especially for brides, a nude lip creates a subtle but noticeable make-up look, which will go with almost every gown colour and style.

All in all, I’d say that the Indian wedding dresses and gowns and fashion showcased at the IIFA Awards are some of the best I’ve seen for a long time, they had me wishing I owned half of them!

Here is a selection of some of my favourite styles from the IIFA Awards

Indian Designer Sougat Paul's collection at the Lakme Fashion Week Winter Festive 2014

Sheers, Florals and a splash of colour in the Sougat Paul collection from Lakme Fashion Week Winter Festive 14 – a lot of interesting styles!

Sougal Paul is a designer from Mumbai in India and is one of the younger designers on the ramp. He launched his label in 2010.

The designer’s collection was a good mix of very different styles. Some of the casual separates looked very good – like the floral printed pants and the cropped tops. The longer length evening dresses were my favourite though – very stylish.

Sougat Paul also included some sheer jackets and shirts that are just perfect for the season. These can be combined very nicely with other colourful pieces.

Specifically for brides, I think that the evening dresses are perfect for reception and evening events. These are unique and stylish – perfect to make a stylish entrance. The shapes appear to be more suited for smaller body types, but I think that some of the styles could be very universally suited for people of all body types.
