Deepika Padukone & Ranveer Singh (DeepVeer) Wedding Deets

I am going through a bit of a celeb phase. I am totally lapping in the details from my favourite wedding of the year so far, Deepika and Ranveer.

The traditional wedding ceremony was held in Italy with only a limited number of guests. The ceremony was limited to close family and friends, with even prominent bollywood stars not invited to the celebration. Since the couple are from different communities, they had 2 traditional style wedding ceremonies – Konkani and Sindhi. Each community has it’s own ways of celebrating weddings, and the lucky couple had the chance to partake in both.

As has become customary in recent weddings, the couple also had an elaborate mehendi ceremony. At this ceremony, the bride had mehendi applied to her hands. From the looks of the pictures – there was also dancing and generally a good vibe.

The Konkani wedding ceremony looked very traditional and both the bride and groom seem to be having a great time. Some media reports claimed that the red saree that Deepika wore was a Sabyasachi, but it was later clarified that it was not from the designer’s collection. The spree was in fact a Kanjivaram saree in which Deepika looked stunning.

The Sindhi wedding style is something I have seen a lot more of, with the bride making an entrance and the like. The couple wore matching colours and looked absolutely adorable. I did have concerns that Ranveer would outshine the bride with his choice of colourful outfits, but thankfully that did not happen 🙂

As the couple got back to Mumbai, on the airport they were seen in relatively muted colours. The style was elegant and a refreshing change from the bold colours at the wedding. I find it absolutely refreshing that Deepika did not opt for heavy neck jewellery and kept her look very simple with the traditional Jhumka earrings.

Ranveer not to be outdone on the florals, also opted for a simple look (by his standards anyway). The timeless pairing of a waistcoat with the white kurta set was perfect and complemented his new wife’s look. I did expect Ranveer to be a little more bold with his choice for the airport, but this look works just fine on him.

Airport Looks

The couple arrived in Mumbai recently and were looking absolutely perfect. They wore matching colours and I have to say, Deepika looked absolutely radiant. I think deepika’s traditional style game is right on point, and I love the use of traditional fabrics and textiles in the couple’s wedding. From quirky motifs like Ranveer’s elephant motif jacket to the nature inspired motifs on Deepika’s dupatta – the small details were a nod to the traditional.

Reception in Bengaluru

Having multiple wedding ceremonies might have been enough for mere mortals, but for the gods of style and bollywood, multiple events are a must have. Since the number of people attending the couple’s wedding in Italy were limited, they are hosted a reception in Bengaluru. The couple as before look absolutely stunning

Iconic Bollywood Sarees

A splash of vibrant colour, tall dark men of valour,

A song for every emotion, fans with die-hard cinema devotion,

Where the hero reigns supreme, and dance numbers always work their way into the theme,

Where melodrama is the major component, but never ever a dull moment,

That’s BOLLYWOOD for you folks!

The Indian film industry has been appreciated world over for its dynamicity, versatility and undying magnetism. Not only that, Bollywood has been known to be a creative platform that not only gives a boost to existing style trends, but also inspires innovative and fresh fashion ideas. The industry has been around for a long time now, and has seen numerous fashion fads come and go, but the one fashion statement, older than Bollywood itself, which has stood strong throughout the years and still reigns as every woman’s favourite attire, is hands down, the Bollywood saree. Be it on screen or off screen, Bollywood divas have been rocking the garment for years now and have no intention of ceasing to do so for years to come.

Let’s have a look at some of the most talked about Bollywood sarees that have left an indelible mark on the minds of all fashion enthusiasts.

The gorgeous Sridevi became a fashion icon overnight owing to her electric blue chiffon saree in the song ‘I Love You’. Bollywood sarees such as these are simple, yet have an undeniable impact on screen. While the song had the lead actors confessing their love to each other, the audience was busy falling in love with this divine piece of clothing!

Madhuri wasn’t the only one who stole hearts with this movie. The purple and golden ensemble that she donned for the song ‘Didi Tera Dewar Deewana’ made women all over the nation go gaga. The modern-day trend of the popular ‘Dori Blouse’ can also be traced back to this iconic Bollywood saree. Certainly, Bollywood sarees like this one are both contemporary and traditional and make a significant on-screen impact!

Aishwarya Rai’s Saree in Devdas

At a time when the Indian saree was being subjected to immense miscellany in regard to its styling, the film Devdas brought back the traditional vogue with this Blue Benarasi number. The modest silhouette of this Bollywood saree was more than compensated by elaborate embroidery work and conventional heavy jewellery. Bollywood sarees such as these truly reflect the unacknowledged glamour quotient of ancient India.

Sushmita Sen’s Saree in Main Hoon Na

Who says teachers can’t look sexy? Sushmita sure made teaching look like the most glamorous profession in the country, with her ultra-glam yet super casual saree clad look in the movie Main Hoon Na. So, for all those who think Bollywood sarees are only fit for evening wear, with the right choice of colours and subtle accessories, a saree could make you look like a million bucks even at your workplace, without looking out of place! I don’t know about you, but these stunning Bollywood sarees definitely stole my heart and I wanted to possess every design!

Truly representing the evolution of the Bollywood saree, Priyanka Chopra’s dazzling cream coloured sari in the movie Dostana, proved beyond doubt that the hottest girl in the world, surely is a ‘Desi Gal’. This was another ensemble I dreamt of adding to my Bollywood sarees collection, with its sheer aura of glam.

Best Dressed and Top Fashion Looks at the IIFA Awards 2014

Deepika Padukone at the IIFA Awards 2014

Bollywood’s young brigade definitely ruled the green carpet at the IIFA Awards, showcasing a gorgeous section of Indian fashion and designers with unique styles, impressing myself, and the fans with their elegance and originality.

I have personally chosen each of these looks as I love the diversity, embellishment and colours of each of the gowns which were proudly shown off as the stars one by one graced the green carpet. Vaani Kapoor specifically stood out for me, showcasing a stunning embellished gold tone backless dress by Raakesh Agarvwal, a sure favourite of mine. The highly embellished gowns in general were definitely my preference amongst the fashion designs; it’s a key look for this season and is extremely flattering and stands out from a crowd.

Kalki Koechlin was a key example of how to wear embellishment, wearing Gaurav Gupta, she stood out at the IIFA Awards in this dazzling soft coloured number detailed with shoulder padding detail and long sleeves which created a princess style look.

Deepika Padukone had opted for a red gown by Lebanese designer Zuhair Murad, she looked gorgeous in this figure hugging lace number and simple updo hairstyle, and although the dark berry lips weren’t for everyone, I personally loved them! In general lip colour at the IIFA Awards was very neutral and nude, a trend and overall fashion look that has taken this season by storm, and successfully completes every look. Especially for brides, a nude lip creates a subtle but noticeable make-up look, which will go with almost every gown colour and style.

All in all, I’d say that the Indian wedding dresses and gowns and fashion showcased at the IIFA Awards are some of the best I’ve seen for a long time, they had me wishing I owned half of them!

Here is a selection of some of my favourite styles from the IIFA Awards
